1,3-Butadiene Safety
Lección 1

Learn the health hazards and exposure limits for 1,3-butadiene, how regulated areas, respirators and protective clothing work, what to do in a leak, and your rights to monitoring results and medical screening.

What this certificate covers

This certificate records completion of awareness training based on OSHA 29 CFR 1910.1051, paragraphs (b), (c), (d)(5)(ii), (d)(7), (d)(8), (e)(1)-(2), (f)(1), (f)(2)(iv), (g), (h), (i), (j), (k)(1)-(3), (k)(7) and Appendix A. It is not an OSHA card or license, and it does not by itself meet the training requirements of 29 CFR 1910.1051(l)(2). Your employer must still train each employee who is potentially exposed to BD at or above the action level or the STEL: the employer must institute a training program, ensure employee participation in it, and maintain a record of its contents. Training must be provided prior to or at the time of initial assignment to a job potentially involving exposure to BD at or above the action level or STEL, and at least annually thereafter, in a manner you are able to understand. Each employee exposed to BD over the action level or STEL must be informed of the health hazards of BD exposure and the medical screening and surveillance program; the quantity, location, manner of use, release and storage of BD and the specific operations that could result in exposure; the engineering controls and work practices for the job, emergency procedures and personal protective equipment; the measures employees can take to protect themselves; the contents of the standard and its appendices; and the right to medical examinations, medical records and air monitoring results.

What you will learn

  • Describe the health hazards of BD and the exposure limits that protect you
  • Explain what a regulated area is and how controls reduce your exposure
  • Describe when respirators are used and how their cartridges are handled
  • Use protective clothing and know the first steps in a leak, spill or fire
  • Explain your rights to monitoring results and medical screening

What you get

  • About 35 minutes, on your phone or computer, read out loud as you go
  • Real photos, not cartoons
  • A hands-on drill: you make the calls, step by step, and see what happens
  • 5 quick checks along the way, then a final quiz
  • A certificate with a QR code your employer can check online
  • A wallet card you can print and carry
