Slings in General Industry
For employees who rig loads in plants, warehouses and shops: safe operating practices for slings, daily inspections, and the identification, temperature, repair and removal-from-service rules for alloy steel chain, wire rope, metal mesh, fiber rope and synthetic web slings.
This certificate records completion of awareness training based on OSHA 29 CFR 1910.184. It is not an OSHA card or license, and it does not make anyone a competent person for sling inspections. Section 1910.184 has no training requirement. Your employer must still designate a competent person to inspect each sling and all fastenings and attachments for damage or defects each day before use, as 29 CFR 1910.184(d) requires, and the thorough periodic inspection of alloy steel chain slings must be performed by a competent person designated by the employer (29 CFR 1910.184(e)(3)(iii)).
