Safety consultant FAQ
What does a safety consultant do?
A safety consultant finds hazards and compliance gaps, writes or updates safety programs, audits job sites and trains workers and supervisors. Many also help with OSHA citations, insurance requirements and prequalification paperwork.
Is a consultant the same as OSHA?
No. Consultants listed here are independent businesses, not government inspectors. Small businesses can also ask for free, confidential help from their state’s OSHA On-Site Consultation Program.
How do I check a consultant’s credentials?
Ask for the certification number and confirm it with the issuer. BCSP certifications (CSP, ASP, CHST, OHST, STS) can be checked online. OSHA Outreach trainers can show their current trainer card.
Can a consultant teach OSHA 10 or OSHA 30?
Only OSHA-authorized Outreach trainers (OSHA 500/501/5402) can teach those classes and issue Department of Labor cards. Filter by “OSHA-authorized Outreach trainer” to find them.
Do classes have to be in person?
No. Most classes run live online. Tick “Teaches in person” to find consultants who travel to your site.
