1910.1001(d)(2): Initial Asbestos Monitoring

By Black Belt Safety Editorial Team Official text as of October 15, 2026 Data updated November 6, 2026 3 min read

In plain words:

Employers covered by the general industry asbestos standard must perform initial monitoring of employees who are, or may reasonably be expected to be, exposed at or above the TWA permissible exposure limit or excursion limit. Monitoring done after March 31, 1992 that meets the section may be used instead, and no initial monitoring is needed where objective data show asbestos cannot be released at or above those limits under expected conditions.
