1910.146(e): Confined Space Entry Permits

By Black Belt Safety Editorial Team Official text as of October 15, 2026 Data updated October 20, 2026 4 min read

In plain words:

Before entry into a permit space, employers must document required preparations on an entry permit, which the entry supervisor signs to authorize entry and which is posted at the entry portal or made available to entrants. The permit may not last longer than the task, and the entry supervisor must cancel it when the work is done or a prohibited condition arises. Canceled permits must be kept for at least 1 year, with problems noted.
