Electrical Safety in Construction for Workers

1 Lesson

For construction workers who use temporary power, extension cords and portable tools: stay clear of live circuits, use ground-fault protection, inspect and run cords correctly, and respect tagged controls.

This certificate records completion of awareness training based on OSHA 29 CFR 1926.400, 1926.403, 1926.404, 1926.405, 1926.416, 1926.417 and 1926.449. It is not an OSHA card or license, and it does not make anyone a qualified person for electrical work. Subpart K has no training paragraph of its own, and this certificate does not by itself meet the general training requirement of 29 CFR 1926.21(b)(2). Your employer must still instruct you in the recognition and avoidance of unsafe conditions and the regulations applicable to your work environment to control or eliminate any hazards.

What you will learn

  • Recognize when work could bring you, a tool or a machine into contact with a live circuit, and keep out of guarded electrical areas
  • Use ground-fault protection on temporary power, and know what your site's cord program requires before each day's use
  • Inspect, choose and run extension cords and portable tools the way the rules require
  • Respect tags on deactivated controls and deenergized circuits
