Lockout/Tagout for Authorized Employees
Lección 1

For authorized employees who lock and tag out machines in general industry: when the standard applies, the six-step application sequence, tags and their limits, safe release, group and shift-change lockout, and the annual periodic inspection.

What this certificate covers

This certificate records completion of awareness training based on OSHA 29 CFR 1910.147. It is not an OSHA card or license, it does not authorize anyone to perform lockout or tagout, and it does not by itself meet the training requirements of 29 CFR 1910.147(c)(7). Your employer must still train you so that you understand the purpose and function of its energy control program and acquire the knowledge and skills for the safe application, usage and removal of energy controls, including the recognition of applicable hazardous energy sources, the type and magnitude of the energy available in your workplace, and the methods and means necessary for energy isolation and control. Your employer must also retrain you when 1910.147(c)(7)(iii) requires it and certify that your training has been accomplished and is being kept up to date.

What you will learn

  • Recognize when servicing or maintenance requires lockout/tagout, and the narrow exceptions
  • Apply energy control in the required sequence, from preparation to verification
  • Use tags correctly and explain their limits compared with locks
  • Release equipment safely, including during testing, group work and shift changes
  • Take part in the annual periodic inspection and know when retraining is required

What you get

  • About 25 minutes, on your phone or computer, read out loud as you go
  • Real photos, not cartoons
  • A hands-on drill: you make the calls, step by step, and see what happens
  • 4 quick checks along the way, then a final quiz
  • A certificate with a QR code your employer can check online
  • A wallet card you can print and carry
  • A printable study guide (PDF)
