By Black Belt Safety Editorial Team Official text as of October 15, 2026 Data updated October 20, 2026 3 min read

In plain words:

After lockout or tagout devices are applied, employers must make sure all potentially hazardous stored or residual energy is relieved, disconnected, restrained and otherwise made safe. If stored energy could build back up to a hazardous level, verification of isolation must continue until the work is done or the possibility no longer exists.
